What is out of scope for the Closures service - what doesn't Middesk do?
To set expectations clearly:
Middesk does not file or pay your final taxes, returns, or any outstanding balances owed to the state. You'll still need to make sure final filings and payments are handled before requesting a closure — agencies won't close an account until those are settled. We also don't provide legal or tax advice on whether or when to close an account; that decision is yours (and your accountant's).
Middesk does not close local tax accounts due to merger, acquisition or company dissolution (going out of business entirely). Given the additional complexity and legal requirements needed to comply with these use cases, employers will need to handle these requests directly with their state and local tax agencies to ensure proper compliance.
Middesk does not currently close local tax accounts like school district levies, Earned Income Tax (EIT) or Local Services Tax (LST). You will need to act directly with the local tax collection agency.
Middesk does not currently close PFML tax accounts. You will need to act directly with the PFML agency.
