Several states provide or require employers to provide short-term state disability insurance (SDI). In some states, it's called temporary disability insurance (TDI). These short-term disability programs provide partial pay replacement to workers who have to take leave from work for more than a few days because of an injury, illness, or pregnancy and recovery from childbirth.
The states that have some type of SDI program are:
- California (CA
- Hawaii (HI)
- New Jersey (NJ)
- New York (NY)
- Rhode Island (RI)
The eligibility requirements for these programs and how they operate vary greatly between states.
Middesk does not currently register employers for SDI or TDI.
Middesk is also not able to provide legal advice to its customers on whether their specific business should be registered for SDI in any given state. Please consult your legal counsel, finance department, or accountant for guidance pertaining to your specific business.
