Unfortunately, there are a number of scams preying on employers who have newly registered in a state. One of the benefits of Middesk’s virtual mail service is our ability to filter out these scam messages on your behalf.
When the Middesk team detects that a piece of mail is a scam, we will identify it as “no action required” so you may safely ignore it.
Legitimate pieces of mail come from government agencies, such as the state’s Department of Revenue or Department of Labor. If you receive a piece of mail that claims you need to pay a “document fee” and it does not originate from an official government agency, it is likely a scam message. A scam letter may come from a generic company name such as “Business Document Center” or “Business Certificate Services.”
