Workers’ compensation insurance covers employees who experience a work-related injury or occupational illness during the course of their regular duties. This coverage is also known as workers’ comp insurance and workman’s comp insurance.
Forty-nine states require most employers to carry workers’ compensation insurance. Texas is the only state that gives employers the choice to offer coverage. Rules vary state-by-state, so it is important to research workers’ compensation insurance requirements for your particular business needs. In many states, the number of employees determines when a business is required to register for workers’ compensation insurance. Most often, it’s required as soon as you hire your first employee.
Middesk currently only handles workers' comp registration for employers in the following states:
- Washington (WA)
- Wyoming (WY)
Middesk does not handle workers' comp registration in other states at this time.
Middesk is not able to provide legal advice to its customers on whether their specific business should be registered for worker's comp in any given state. Please consult your legal counsel, finance department, or accountant for guidance pertaining to your specific business.
