Understanding Registration Statuses
When checking the status of your registrations that have been submitted to Middesk, there are multiple tags that our team uses to convey the current status of your registration order, including but not limited to:
1. Middesk processing: The registration is in our queue. We have received your company information and it will be submitted to each state agency soon.
2. Government processing: Middesk is still waiting on the government tax agency in question to review, process, and return your completed registration and the associated account details. This will often involve waiting for mail or emails, checking specific agency resources, or logging into agency portals to check on the status of your registration.
3. Completed: The registration has been completed with all necessary state agencies, and the account information has been retrieved. Please note - the completed tag refers to Middesk completing the registration and confirming the details, but does not indicate that you are fully set up from here on - and you still need to check with your payroll provider to see if they require anything from you to file on your behalf, such as third party authorization.
Additional Statuses
Blocked by Government: The registration cannot yet be completed due to one of the following reasons…
The state requires that the employee’s hire date or first payroll date has passed before they will allow a company to register. Once the hire date or first payroll date has passed, Middesk will then be able to register you with the appropriate state agencies.
The state requires that the company has hit a particular liability threshold, meaning the company has paid an employee a specific minimum amount. Once the liability threshold has been exceeded, Middesk will then be able to register you with the appropriate state agencies.
The state requires that you be registered with the Secretary of State (SOS) before registering with payroll. In that case, this status indicates that your SOS registration process is in progress
Duplicate: This tag is used to indicate that our team found your business had an existing account or registration that prevented us from completing the registration, and usually means we are unable to support the registration. See What is a "Duplicate" registration further details on duplicate registrations.
Action required: This status means that our Operations team requires additional information from you to complete your registration. Please refer to the email inbox of the account’s contact person for more details on the requested information. In most cases, you will be provided with a link to securely submit that information to us via a form on the Middesk website. Once Middesk obtains that information, we will be able to proceed with the registration process for you.
Not Required: This indicates, typically for a state unemployment tax registration, that your business has not yet met the liability thresholds to be considered required to register, and instead were deemed non-liable or ineligible to register.
Unmanaged: The account is no longer managed by Middesk, most commonly due to the payroll account having been closed with the state agency or due to customer request.
